Home to America's oldest Harley-Davidson dealership, Columbus is the capital of Ohio, the state's largest city and the 15th largest city in the United States. It is under 500 miles from Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Toronto.

One of the main things to see here is the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, where you can learn all about the sport and the industry. And then you have to go to the Museum of the oldest Harley-Davidson dealership on West Broad Street. The dealership was established in 1912. Now, the museum also holds a vintage ice cream parlour.

The State Capitol of Ohio

Columbus is also the capitol of Ohio, so the Statehouse is worth a visit. There are guided tours of both the house and senate as well as Capitol Square which includes many other statues and monuments, most of which were recently renovated.

The Center of Science and Industry

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is also a must-see destination for visitors. It's got the country's largest collection of reptiles, as well as famous gorilla and cheetah collections. The zoo has been made famous by Jack Hanna, whose appearances with David Letterman and Good Morning America, have been promoting the Columbus Zoo for over 20 years. Jack is now the Director Emeritus for the zoo.

There's also The Center of Science and Industry, which is run by the first woman to walk on the moon, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan. As you can imagine, the Center focuses on science and has rotating exhibits, an outdoor science park, and even the world's only high-wire unicycle act.

German Village, try the shops & restaurants

If you're game for a bit more driving, there is also the Pro-Football Hall of Fame, 2 hours away in Canton, Ohio. But there's more for all you sport fans. Columbus also recently built the only stadium in the country dedicated to soccer. This is where the Columbus Crew play for up to 22,500 fans.

And coming this fall to the city? The Jack Nicklaus Museum in honour of the golfer and the sport's history.

For those of you with a sweet tooth, there is the Anthony-Thomas Candy Company. This is one of the largest family-owned candy factories. Why not find out how chocolate is made?

If you'd like a theme restaurant or great places to go out, either head down to the Brewery District or the German Village. Both are good areas to spend an evening in. And if you're in the German Village during the day, you might want to check out one of the walking tours which show off the houses, gardens and restaurants of the area.
